‘If They Protest, Have We Succeeded?’: Critical Thoughts on the Real Goals of Civic Education

CMEI Colloquium
Larsen Hall, Harvard Graduate School of Education
March 8, 2011

While civic education has become a popular theme in the present political climate, there is little consensus and much controversy about goals, and about how to achieve them. The Colloquium will bring together contributors to the recently published Handbook of Research on Civic Engagement in Youth (Wiley, 2010) to discuss the current and potential future purposes and practices of civic education.
